Renaissance Quest is designed to run on any machine which can
browse the Internet, and which has JAVA (TM) installed. This includes the vast
majority of computers in use today. There are no special Video Card or
memory requirements. If you are having trouble, chances are your installation
of JAVA is not enabled correctly. Here are some hints to help you fix it.

Remember that recent versions of Opera, Mozilla, and Netscape come with JAVA
already installed. You probably don't need to install anything for these
browsers. Just make sure JAVA is enabled using the instructions below.

SOLUTIONS

  Internet Explorer 4.x and Up

    Click "Tools" --> "Internet Options"
Select the Advanced Tab, and scroll down to "Java (Sun)"
Check the box next to the "Use Java 2" version
Next, select the Security Tab, and select the "Custom Level" button
Scroll down to "Scripting of Java applets"
Make sure the "Enable" radio button is checked.
Click OK to save your preference.

From the menu bar, choose Edit --> Preferences
    Select the Advanced category

  Opera 4.x and Up

Opera for Windows does not use the Sun JAVA, but an embedded version already
inside the Opera Web browser. Therefore no download or enable is needed.

  AOL 3.x and Up

AOL runs a saved copy of each applet from a cache folder on the computer,
so the applet now running in the browser may not be the most current version.

AOL has a bug which causes some applets to redraw the window improperly.

Use these suggestions to help resolve AOL issues.

      - Clear the web cache and delete temporary files. This will force the browser
to download and cache the latest version of the applet from its web site.

Start AOL from the AOL menu bar
Select Keyword > Go to Keyword
        type the keyword preferences
        Click Go
Dialog box: AOL Settings: Customize your AOL Experience
Select Essentials tab > Internet (Web) Options - Set Web browser options and properties
        Dialog box: Internet Options
        Select General tab
        Click Delete files
Dialog box: Delete Files: Delete all files in the Temporary Internet files
        Select Delete all offline content
        Click OK
        Click OK

      - Optimize your AOL browser settings.

Start AOL from the AOL menu bar
Select Keyword > Go to Keyword
        type the keyword preferences
        Click Go
Dialog box: AOL Settings: Customize your AOL Experience
Select Essentials tab > Internet (Web) Options - Set Web browser options and properties
        Dialog box: Internet Options
        Select Security tab
Dialog box: Select a web content zone to specify security settings
        Click Internet icon
Click Default Level (which sets the browser to Medium)
        Select AOL Browser tab
Dialog box: Web Graphics: Do you want Web graphics to be compressed? This will
        display Web pages quicker.
        Click Never compress graphics
        Click OK
        Close AOL
        Restart AOL

      - If there are still problems after clearing the cache, try using another
browser, such as Mozilla, Internet Explorer, or Netscape to view Java
        applets.

Enable JAVA through Control Panel

To see whether your browser is configured to use JAVA or not, first open the
Windows Control Panel. From the Start menu button, select Settings, then Control Panel
to open the Control Panel. You should see the Java Coffee Cup logo icon
in the Control Panel.

Double click the icon to open the "Java Control Panel"
In the "Java Control Panel", select the Browser Tab
Make sure the box next to Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Mozilla is checked
If it is not checked, click the checkbox to enable JAVA for your Web browser
Click the Apply button.

If you do not see the coffee cup icon in the Windows Control Panel,
you do not have the latest version of the JAVA installed on your computer.
We recommend that you click the Button below to visit the Sun Website.

Your browser will be tested, and the latest Java Plug-In will be installed
if it is needed - safely, easily, and for FREE.
